Decorating Neutral, Painting in Color, and Saving Money

Hey there friend, let’s talk about decorating neutral, painting in color and saving money while doing it! Here are some tips I have learned over the years when it comes to creating an inviting and comfortable home.

The beauty of paint resides not only in the plethora of colors, but also in the ability to change it at any time. The color we paint our walls can drastically change the aesthetic of a room. Color also evokes emotion, and the color we use to decorate now may not be a color that brings us positive emotion 2 years later. Paint is a relatively inexpensive way to make a huge difference in the look and feel of a room- it’s quite magical! There is something so satisfying about painting a room; everything feels fresh and new. Paint is also temporary – there is always a new “in” color to choose in the future, if your heart desires.

So, instead of decorating with color, let’s say we paint our room in color (neutrals are totally acceptable too!). How do we then decorate it so we love it and create a cohesive space?

Decorating a home isn’t always the cheapest, I mean there are some great thrift finds out there, and sometimes with a little paint it is DIY’d into a whole new piece with a fresh lifecycle.

However, there is no denying that shopping for the right decor can take time, especially when you are looking for a specific color.

Now imagine having to shop for specific home decor every time you need to change up the color in your space because your decor no longer fits your new vision. While shopping is fun for a new piece or two, it’s not always enjoyable for an entire room. It can actually be very overwhelming to continuously shop for new decor whenever you want to change your wall color. Not to mention it can be costly.

Here’s an idea: what if we decorate with neutrals? Yup, you heard me right! NEUTRALS! Center in on the creams, whites, blacks, grays, natural wood and neutral florals (eucalyptus, greenery, white flowers). Once you do that, it doesn’t matter what color you paint your walls, the decor will ALWAYS WORK! This is why I create all of our Wonder & Twine products with a neutral tone pallet. It ensures that each of our pieces will naturally become a part of whatever home they end up in, and help to bring more joy to each space. And, when you do find a statement piece you love that does have some color, and you just need to have it, you won’t have to worry about it matching your other decor. It already will!

Decorating with neutral tones also allows you to change your home decor from room to room with ease. If you are getting sick of looking at that same vase, rug, or sign, take yourself on a little redecorating adventure to the guest bedroom, or family room. Go ahead and grab the neutral decor from there and swap it out with another room’s decor. Now, you’ve created an immediate change to your home decor, and no money was spent, and no need to re-paint (unless you want to)! Of course, if you truly do want a new piece, go shopping- your local  makers and shops will love you for it.

So there you have it! By decorating with neutral tones and painting your walls with the color that speaks to your heart, you can create a space that is welcoming and comfortable, and easy to change in the future. You can also swap out the neutral decor throughout your house when you need a quick change of scenery. All of this keeps more money in your pocket, allowing you to save for those statement pieces you love and just can’t live without. If you need more neutrals in your home, we invite you to shop our store, or message us to create a one of a kind piece for you!
